Adrian Mateos Wins 2013 WSOP Europe Main Event

Adrian Mateos, a 19 year old Spaniard, has won the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, winning a first place prize of $1,379,300 as well as his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Mateos’ win at the Casino Barrierre de Enghien in France, came after defeating a field of 375 players over a period of five days.

Following his remarkable victory, the Spaniard remarked that with more money he could play more events and that although he cannot go to Vegas next year as he has to wait, “he will be there”.

Mateos also managed to earn 1,500 Card Player “Player of the Year” points in addition to the title and the prize money which was sufficient to place him into 54th place in the overall Player of the Year standings. The €10,450 no-limit hold’em main event was Mateos’ fifth final table finish of 2013. All his previous scores came in smaller buy-in prelim events around Europe.

After entering the final day as the chip leader, Mateos maintained that lead and overcame a star-studded final six that included Benny Spindler (€126,000), Ravi raghavan (5th – €176,000) as well as Dominik Nietsche (3rd – €400,00) which resulted in him getting heads-up play against Fabrice Soulier with a chip lead of approximately 4.5-to-1.  After a drawn out back and forth battle Mateos managed to regain control and succeeded in becoming the winner of the 2013 WSOP Europe Main Event.
